Former Arsenal youth player Billy Vigar died last month after suffering a "serious brain injury" while playing for Chichester City at Wingate & Finchley FC.
It is believed that 21-year-old Vigar collided with a concrete wall, which was later demolished.
The Football Association said it would conduct an immediate safety review following the tragedy.
At a United fans forum held last week, a supporter highlighted the number of injuries sustained by players in the Premier League from colliding with advertising hoardings.
He asked if the club would "invest in transparent and soft material to cover these."
A United spokesperson said: "The health and well-being of all players is paramount.
"We will look into this risk and take appropriate action."
Former United winger Angel Di Maria was pushed off the field by Ashley Young into advertising hoardings upon his return to Paris Saint-Germain in 2019.
Several other players have fallen into hoardings at Old Trafford and required treatment.
Wingate & Finchley officials have already taken steps to increase safety around the field at the Maurice Rebaque Stadium.
Reports claim that work has begun on improvements.
The ground used to comply with existing regulations, but the club has now completely demolished the wall.
This comes after a petition calling for a ban on brick walls around grounds has garnered over 4,000 signatures.
